Primary cultures of human cardiomyoctyes were prepared by surgery requiring cardiiopulmonary bypass. The human right atrial appendages were minced in small pieces and digested. Cells were collected and cultured in Iscove's modified Dulbecco's medium (Invitrogen) supplemented with 10% FBS, L-glutamine, and antibiotics.
