State-of-the-Art Hardware Enables Single-Day Genome
The Ion Proton™ System is the only sequencing platform that promises to enable the $1,000 genome*. It will be the first instrument system to provide a human-scale genome in a single day, including data processing, base calling, and variant calling.
Not only does the use of semiconductor technology by the Ion Proton™ System deliver the speed required for a sequencing run in a few hours, but the state-of-the-art electronics within the Ion Proton™ Sequencer also enable variant calls in a single day on the Proton™ Torrent Server—a simple benchtop server supplied as part of the Ion Proton™ System.
Powered by the newest and most advanced computing hardware (graphics processing unit (GPU) and field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology), the Ion Proton™ Sequencer performs the compute-intensive data processing within the sequencer itself. The less compute-intensive base calling and variant calling is then performed on the Proton™ Torrent Server.
The Ion Proton™ System will deliver unprecedented speed and affordability for exome, transcriptome, and human-scale genome sequencing on a benchtop sequencer and benchtop server that, until now, demanded a large-footprint sequencer and high-end cluster.
