Research Tools for Influenza Confirmation & Analysis

Life Technologies™ understands that surveillance includes downstream applications that go beyond just detecting the influenza virus. After detecting the presence of influenza in respiratory samples using real-time PCR, results should be confirmed by sequencing the positive samples. Sequencing of the full viral genome is useful to determine if any genetic drift or novel mutations (“reassortment”) have occurred. We supply the tools, reagents, and support necessary to help further characterize influenza viruses identified during detection, and offer support for whole-genome sequencing, resequencing, and antiviral resistance determination testing.

Step-by-Step Guide to Influenza Detection

The influenza virus is RNA based; therefore, in order to detect the virus, RNA must be extracted and converted to cDNA.
