Agarose Gel Electrophoresis
Agarose gel electrophoresis remains the most widely used technique for separating nucleic acid fragments because it is a simple technique that is nontoxic and offers a broad separation range. The size of the gel pores can be controlled by simply adjusting the agarose concentration to prepare gels appropriate for the separation of a wide range of different-size nucleic acid molecules. The migration of nucleic acids in agarose gels is also affected by the choice of running buffer and the applied voltage. Life Technologies offers convenient reagents for agarose gel electrophoresis including hassle-free precast E-Gel® agarose gels, safe and sensitive DNA stains, DNA ladders, and UltraPure™ reagents to cast agarose gels yourself. |

DNA Ladders and Markers
| Life Technologies offers a broad selection of DNA ladders and markers ranging from 10 bp to 50 Kb for accurate analysis of linear double-stranded DNA in agarose gels. A variety of these ladders are available in the ready-to-use TrackIt™ and E-Gel® formats, including our popular 1 Kb Plus DNA Ladder and 100 bp DNA Ladder. |
DNA Stains
| Many DNA stains are available from Life Technologies including SYBR® Safe DNA gel stain and ethidium bromide. SYBR® Safe DNA gel stain is a superior DNA stain that is nontoxic and nonmutagenic, yet has similar DNA detection sensitivity as ethidium bromide. |
