Countess® Cell Counter - Customer Feedback
Ratings & Reviews
![]() | Great Product Institution: University of New Mexico The Countess automated cell counter has been a great addition to our lab. It was easy to learn how to use and has helpful additions including a dilution calculator. It consistently provides accurate cell counts that are within 5% of a manual cell count, and takes only a few minutes to get accurate calculations. We also appreciate the easy preparation and clean up with basically no mess. |
![]() | Works well but consider cost of consumables Institution: U of Illinois College of Medicine The Countess works well (be sure you have the most up-to-date firmware; available at N/C from Invitrogen website) and requires virtually no training. It is simple to use and gives accurate counts. However, the cost of the consumable slides is a concern for our lab since we do a lot of counting. Invitrogen does not provide a very significant discount on the slides, even when purchasing in bulk. If the cost of the slides could be cut by 50%, Invitrogen would have a clear winner here. |
![]() | Countess Automated cell counter Application or Technique: Automated cell counter Institution: Chantest First of all, this countess automated cell count is very convenient. I didn’t have to stand there to count cells and it calculates cells per ml. It took less than 2 minutes for me to load cells and have cells counted. Adjusting settings are simple and took less than 30minutes for me to have it ready to go. We have several technicians that are not full trained on cell counting, but this automated cell count makes it easier for them to use. Basically, its simple, easy, and accurate enough for our company to use. |
![]() | The Countess Institution: ISB I am really happy with my purchase, the Countess has made my life much easier!! I count and plate cells almost everyday and feel I have better consistency in cell number using the cell counter verses the hemacytometer. My co-workers are always using my Countess and loving it too!! |
![]() | Excellent Instrument Application or Technique: Large scale protein production, transient transfections, stable transfections The Countess™ automated cell counter has consistently provided accurate cell counts. We have checked against hemocytometer and Flow Cytometer cell counts and the counts have varied by no more than 5%. The accurate cell counts have helped in all of our experiments which deal heavily with accurately measuring viability of the cultures we are working with. |
![]() | Helpful, but not for everyone Application or Technique: Tissue Culture Institution: JHU We returned this item after a brief use. It did not serve our needs well enough. We presently use a vi-cell xr, and this provides a better quality of results. For the small lab looking for fast results, this is a fine product. For our core, not so much. |

I am using the Countess® to verify cell count and viability following cell sorting by flow cytometry. I have found the output to be very useful as verification of a successful sort. Users have found the output to be a time-saving tool as they prepare their cells for downstream processing.
--- Suzanne Schloemann, Washington University, St. Louis
The Countess® cell counter has been very useful for my experiments. I am so amazed because of its speed, easy operation and results traceability. This instrument let me save a lot of time to make another experiments. I would highly recommend it.
– Cristina, Universidad de Alcalá, Spain
“The Countess® makes tissue culture work much easier and more productive. I wish I had one years ago!
– John McGrath, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
“Our lab is using this instrument routinely. With its help we avoid boring cell counting under the microscope. It is very easy to use. Excellent design”.
– User from Massachusetts General Hospital”
“Very easy to set up and use. Great cell counting instrument for a small lab or a large group of users. No mess left behind when counting is done, unlike Coulter counter where you have to blank after each use”.
– Alexandra Lin, NIH
“The Countess® has worked out well for our lab. The Countess® cell counts agree with our manual cell counts, and the Countess® is much faster”.
– Danielle Krebs, UBC Life Sciences Centre
“We found the Countess® very helpful for our migration assays. Instead of spending hours counting cells to get results, we are able to quickly quantify our data! A definite time saver and well worth the cost!”
– Holly, University of Rochester
“The Countess® has proven to be a huge time-saver. It increases productivity at all levels."
– John Coburn, Massachusetts General Hospital
“The Countess® saves us hours of time during experimentally intense work days. We also appreciate the consistency of counts even with different users.”
– Sarah, U of IL
“ My experiences thus far have been pleasant. It rivals the precision of my coulter counter”.

“I consider "Countess®" very useful in pre-clinical experiments, in which the count of cells is crucial and needs to be documented”
“The Countess® is reliable and has worked well for our lab.”
“The Countess® is an asset to the lab. Less time is spent counting as compared to a standard hymocytometer. Reliable results are delivered quickly and the data can be stored with software for future reference.”
“It is really reliable, and user friendly.”
“The unit has helped make counting cells more efficient in the lab. The unit is fast and easy to use.”
“I carry many cell lines and constantly have to count them, the Countess® has simplified counting.”
“We find the Countess'® ease-of-use very attractive—we get a lot more cell counting done in a day without the eye strain.”
"The Countess® cell counter has saved us around half an hour each day, compared to the manual hemocytometer we were using and will cut out analyst error and filling in paper work. Overall, very happy with it!"
