Frequently Asked Questions
1. When will Vector NTI Advance™ 11 be available?
Version 11 was launched on December 15, 2008.
2. What will happen to the free licenses for v10?
With the launch of Vector NTI Advance™ 11, we have discontinued the sale of the prior version, as is standard software practice. In practical terms, this means that as of December 12 2008, we no longer provide any new free annual v10 licenses.
3. Will my current v10 license continue to function?
Yes. Your existing annual v10 license will continue to function. It will expire a year from when you first obtained it. For example, if you obtained a free v10 license on November 24 2008, that license will continue to provide the full functionality of v10 until November 23 2009.
4. If my free v10 license has expired already, can I get a new free v10 license for 2009?
Since we have already launched v11, we are not providing new free v10 licenses. If you need assistance, please use our online Bioinformatics Support.
5. If I have never had a free v10 license before, can I get one now?
Since we have already launched v11, we are not providing new free v10 licenses.
6. Why has Invitrogen discontinued the free v10 license program?
Over the past three years, the v10 free license program has been an overwhelming success by the sheer number of researchers using this version of the software. In that time, you have told us very clearly you want added features, easier licensing, and more personalized technical support. In response, we have completely redesigned both the software and our licensing options for academic researchers. Vector NTI Advance™ 11 contains major new cloning, design and search functionality, a completely updated interface, support on Intel-based Macs as well as Windows® Vista, and new, cost-effective 1-year and 3-year license options exclusively for academic researchers. These new license options also include personalized Technical Support by email, and are delivered directly to you by email without the need to register or log in separately. At significantly reduced prices compared with our Commercial Licenses, these new options respect the current grant funding and other realities of academic research.
7. Will I be able to get a free academic license of v11?
No, but as described above, we have created two cost-effective v11 license options specifically for researchers in academic, government and non-profit institutions. You can now obtain 1-year and 3-year Academic Licenses that provide full software functionality, greatly streamlined license delivery, and Technical Support by email. Click here to learn more.
